About
Singapore Malaysia
Carcosa Seri
Negara
In
1896, Sir Frank started constructing his official residence
above the Lake Gardens. This was Carcosa, probably a
stylization of the Italian cara cosa or "dear place".
In
1904, Sir Frank moved to Carcosa, at the same time finishing
a building called "King's House" on an adjacent
hillside. King's House, today Seri Negara (which means
"beautiful country"), was to house the Governor
of the Straits Settlements as well as other illustrious
guests of the Malay Federation.
From
1904 until the 1941 Japanese invasion of Malaysia, Carcosa
was the official residence of the highest British representative
to the Malay States.
Today, Carcosa is one of the leading hotels with its
manicured lawns and the lake gardens, show a part of
Malaysia which seemingly can never change.

information on the suites |
View
from the suites
Most of the suites provide a picturesque view of the
lush garden or 'matured' landscape. Part of the Seri
Ehsan suite leads to a spacious verandah directly above
the ground entrance porch called the Inderapura suite
or Audience suite. It commands the best view of the
surrounding area including the skyline of Kuala Lumpur
city centre
Description of the suites
The suites are decorated in Victorian style, and the
décor, furniture and fittings are selected to
replicate the very best from the Victorian era. The
décor is indeed luxurious. Marble form the Malaysian
island of Langkawi was used for the bathrooms, and the
basins are lined with gold-plated accessories. Many
of the carpets are handmade and the wall adorned with
local paintings and batik. Furniture is specially commissioned
and complimented with local antiques
Amenities in suites

system, DVD player and Internet facility. The toiletries
in the bathroom are of Crabtree & Evelyns

The
Gulai House
The Gulai House at Carcosa Seri Negara is arguably the
only restaurant in Kuala Lumpur that serves Malay cuisine
in fine dining style. Guests coming to the century-old
colonial building-turned hotel are able to enjoy varieties
of local delights in the newly refurbished Seri Negara
mansion.
The
classis creations of Malaysian cuisine created by our
master chef, Khairuddin Selamat, or Chef Din includes
sup ketam (local flower crab soup), kari ayam daun limau
purut (mild chicken curry with lime leaf) and pulut
pandan nangka madu bersalai (honey jack fruit stuffed
with caramelised glutinous rice served with coconut
milk and palm sugar syrup).
One of the dishes worth highlighting is: Puteri Gulai,
a main course of pan-fried Ruby Snapper which won Siti
Ummir Quois the silver medal in the 9th Penang International
Salon Gastronomique 2003 under the Hot Asian Live Cooking
category.
The Gulai House opens daily from 6.30pm - 11.00pm (except
Sundays and public holidays) and caters for private
function. For reservations.
The
Drawing Room
One of Carcosa Seri Negara’s trademarks is the
English afternoon tea, served at the elegant drawing
room, or on the verandah, overlooking the beautiful
gardens, daily, in the style of Sir Frank Swettenham.
Savor the delightful variety of teas, assorted sandwiches,
hot savories, pastries, cakes, fresh strawberries, and
the quintessential English tea fare of scones served
with Clotted Cream and homemade strawberry jam.

The
13 suites at Carcosa Seri Negara are furnished in distinctive
regency style with fine brocades, old etchings and Malaysian
objects d’art. Several suites have large terraces;
two actually come with private dining rooms.
Suites are identified by their own name, derived from
names of Malaysian States. Most state names are followed
by a descriptive virtue of the State. That description,
prefaced by “Seri” (Malay for “beautiful”)
is often reflected in the design of the suite itself.
All
suites are air-conditioned, furnished with a mini-bar,
television, writing desk, video player, and CD player.
However, the seven refurbished period suites at Carcosa
Mansion have been fitted with full marble bathrooms,
new music systems, satellite TV and dual ports for fax
and Internet access.
