ACCOMMODATIONS

Century Mahkota Hotel Melaka Located along the waterfront, the hotel is walking distance from sightseeing, historical areas, shopping, and commercial centers. Rooms are more like holiday apartments, with mini kitchens and up to three bedrooms for family living-a big hit with Malaysian and Singaporean families. Each apartment has a tiled main room with clean cooking space at one end and simple rattan furnishings at the other--only bedrooms are air-conditioned. The views are of either the pools, the shopping mall across the street, or the muddy reclaimed seafront. The sprawling complex includes two outdoor pools, facilities for children, and is across from the largest shopping mall in Malacca. This place gets especially crowded during the school holidays in June arid December.

Heeren House. This is the place to stay in Malacca for a taste of the local culture. All the bedrooms have views of the Malacca River, and outside the Front door of the hotel is a winding stretch of old buildings housing antiques shops. Just walk out and wander. The rooms on the higher floors are somewhat larger. laundry service is available, and there's a cafe and gift shop on the premises. Reserve well in advance.
