Telang Usan Hotel. Value While in Kuching I like to stay at the Telang Usan Hotel. It's not as flashy as the higher priced places, but it's a fantastic bargain for a good room. Most guests here are leisure travelers, and in fact, many ,ire repeat visitors. The small public areas sport murals in local Iban style, revealing the origin of the hotel's owner and operator. While rooms are small and decor is not completely up-to-date, they're spotless. Some rooms have only standing showers, so be sure to specify when making your reservation if a bathtub is important to you. The coffee shop serves local and Western food from 7am to midnight, and the higher category rooms have minibars. There is an excellent tour agency under the same ownership at the hotel.

In addition to the two conventional restaurants listed below, Kuching's hawker renter food stalls offer a culinary adventure at affordable prices. A good centrally located center is at Ala Carte on Lebuh'Iemple. It's indoors and air-conditioned. 11so try the food stalls at Satok Market out at Jalan Satok for excellent Malay, Chinese, and Sarawakian cuisine.
