As in Kuala Lumpur, taxis charge a metered fare, RM2.05 (US550 for the first Kilometer and an additional 10 sen for each 200m after that. Between midnight and 6am you'll be charged an extra 50% of the total fare. For taxi pickup there's and extra RM1 (US254) charge. Call City cab at 07/354-0007.
The American Express office is located at Overseas Express Travel & Tours, Wisma Overseas Express, 29 Jalan Meldrum (07/224-6611). Major banks arc located in the city center, and money changers at shopping malls and at JOTIC.

The main post office is on Jalan Dato Onn (07/223-2555), just around the corner from JOTIC. For Internet connection, I recommend the conveniently located Weblinks Connexions in the /O'1-IC center on Jalan Ayer Molek, L1-2 (07/225-1387). They charge RM2.50 (US654) per hour.
Several international chains have accommodations in JB. Most are intended for the business set, but holiday travelers will find the accommodations very comfortable.

Mutiara Hotel Johor Balarta Formerly the Holiday Inn, this property has gotten a recent upgrading as Mutiara, but that still does not compensate for its location-a bit far from the major attractions. Still, discounts here are good, so he sure to inquire. The big modern hotel block serves groups and conferences better than independent travelers. The handsome two-level lobby has polished marble floors and a domed ceiling supported by fat wood columns.
