BY AIR Malaysia Airlines has a daily flight from KL. For reservations call (1300/88-3000). Flights arrive at the Sultan Ahmad Shah Airport (09/ 538-1291). Just outside the airport is a taxi stand where you can get a cab to Kuantan for RM25 (US$G.GO) or to Cherating for RMGO (US$1G).

BY BUS Bus routes service Kuantan from all parts of the peninsula. From Kl., Plusliner (03/4042-1256) departs from the Pekeliling Bus Terminal, off Jalan Tun Razak. Five daily buses make the trip for RM14 (US$3.75). The bus terminal in Kuantan is in Kompleks Makmur. Taxis at the stand just outside the terminal can take you to town for RM10 (US$2.G5).For busses from Kuantan to other destinations call Plushiner at (09/515-0991) or Transnasional at 09/515-6740.

BY TAXI Outstation taxis from KL (03/2078-0213) will cost RM220 (US$58). The outstation taxi stand in Kuantan is at the bus terminal.

The areas in the town's center are nice for walking. Otherwise stick with taxis, which can be waved down on any street. If you need to arrange for a pickup, call the taxi stand at the bus terminal at 009/513-4478. There's also a stand behind the Tourist Information Centre where you'll be sure to find a cab in a pinch. Taxis here are not metered, so you must negotiate the fare before you set our. This is a good deal when you want to hire someone for a few hours to take you around the city. Rates are from RM15 (US$3.95) per hour. Use taxis to travel to areas of interest outside the city that are covered later in this section.
