BY FERRY From the jetty at Kuala Kedah, there are about five companies that provide ferry service to the island (trip time: about 1 hr. and 45 min.; cost: RM 15/US$3.95). Contact LADA Holdings at 04/762-3823 in Kuala Kedah or 04/966-8823 in Langkawi; Langkawi Ferry Services at 04/762-4524 in Kuala Kedah or 04/966-9439)4.39; or Nautica Ferries at 04/762-1201 in Kuala Kcdah or 04/966-7868 in Langkawi. Ferries let you off at the main ferry terminal in Kuah, where you can hop a taxi to your resort for RM30 to RM40 (US$7.90-US$11).

If you're coming from Penang, the ferry is the way to go. Bahagia Express has a morning and afternoon speedboat from Weld Quay in Georgetown for RM35 (US$9.20). Call them in Penang at 004/263-1943 or visit their office across from the clock tower, just next to the main tourism board office. If you're heading from Langkawi to I'cnang, you can call Bahagia in l,angkawi at 04/9665784.

The MTB office is unfortunately situated in Kuah town on Jalan Persiaran Putra, so most travelers miss it completely, instead heading straight for the beach areas. If you'd like to pick up some of their information, ask your taxi driver to stop on the way to your resort. For specific queries, you can also call them at you're arriving by plane, there's another MTB office at the airport NO 04/955-7155).
