Many travelers will choose to eat in town for convenience, and while there's plenty of great dining in the more central areas, there are some other really fantastic dining finds if you're willing to hop in a cab for 10 or 15 minutes. These places are worth the trip-for a chance to dine along the water at UDMC or imid lush terrace gardens at Alkaff Mansion, or to just go for superior seafood o Long Beach Seafood Restaurant. And don't worry about finding your way I)ack: Most places always have cabs milling about. If not, restaurant staff will rlways help you call a taxi.

Alkaff Mansion * MALAY/INDONESIAN Alkaff Mansion was built by the wealthy Arab Alkaff family not as a home, but as a place to throw elaborate parties; and true to its mission, Alkaff Mansion is tops for elegant ambience. The mansion allows for indoor and outdoor patio dining at small tables glistening with starched white linens and small candles. The forest outside is a stunning backdrop. The dinner cuisine here is rijsttafel-home-style Indonesian fare that was influenced by Dutch tastes and is served in set menus that rotate weekly. A typical set dinner might include gado gado (a cold salad with sweet peanut sauce) and a soup. To announce the main course, a gong is sounded and ladies dressed in traditional kebaya sarongs carry out the dishes on platters. Main courses include the siakap masak asam turnis (fish in a tangy sauce); the udang karv kuning, which is a great choice for lobster; and the crayfish in chile sauce. III rijstaffcl tradition, the dinner is served with rice, which is accompanied by an array of condiments like varieties of sambal and achar. Downstairs, Alkaff serves a huge buffet with nightly changing themes. I strongly recommend this place for a trulv unique and memorable dining experience.
