MALACCA 3

Surprisingly, there is no Malaysia Tourism Board office in Malacca, but there is a locally operated Malacca Tourism Centre in the Town Square ( 06/2836538).
While there is an airport in Malacca, it's not open for any flights due to lack of demand. And while Malacca doesn't have a proper train station, the KTM stops at Tampin (06/441-1034), 38km (23'/9 miles) north of the city. It's not the most convenient way in and out of Malacca, but if you decide to stop en route between Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru, you can easily catch a waiting taxi to your hotel in town for RM35 to RM40 (US$9.20-US$11).
From Singapore, contact Malacca-Singapore Express at 65/ 6293-5915. Buses depart seven times daily for the 4 1/2 hour trip (S$11/ (US$6.30). From KL's Puduraya Bus Terminal on Jalan Pudu, Transnasional (03/230-5044) has hourly buses between 8am and 10pm for RM6.80 (US$ 1.80).The bus station in Malacca is at Jalan Kilang, within the city. Taxis are easy to find from here.
Outstation taxis can bring you here from any major city, including Johor Bahru (about RM120/US$32) and Kuala Lumpur (RM120/US$32). Taxi reservation numbers are listed in each city's section. The outstation taxi stand in Malacca is at the bus terminal on Jalan Kilang. There's no number for reservations.
