PENINSULAR MALAYSIA 4
The Express Rail Link runs between KLIA and KI. Sentral train station from 5am to 1 am daily. Trains depart every 15 minutes and take 28 minutes to complete the journey. Tickets cost RM35 (US$9.20) for adults and RM15 (US$3.95) for children. From KL Sentral you can catch one of the city's commuter trains to a station near your hotel.
The outstation taxi stand in Kuala Lumpur is located at Puduraya Bus Terminal on Jalan Pudu. Call CC J 03/2078-0213 for booking to any city on the peninsula. Fares will run you about RM180 (US$47) to Cameron Highlands, RM120 (US$32) to Malacca, RM220 (US$58) to Johor Bahru, and RM220 (US$58) to Penang and to Kuantan. These taxis can pick you up at your hotel for an additional RM10 (US$2.65) upon request.
BY BUS There's more than one bus terminal in Kuala Lumpur, and it can be somewhat confusing. The main bus terminal, Puduraya Bus Terminal, is on Jalan Pudu right in the center of town-literally. Buses heading in and out of the station block traffic along already congested city streets, spewing noxious gasses. The terminal itself is hot, filthy, and noisy; the heavy-metal boom box wars between the provision shops is amusing for about 30 seconds. This terminal handles bus routes to all over the country, but more specifically to areas on the west coast from north to south. Buses to Penang or Malacca will leave from here. I think Puduraya is a mess to be avoided at all costs. It is a well-kept secret that many business-class and executive coaches to Penang, Johor Bahru, and Singapore depart peacefully from the KL Railway Station, which is a far saner alternative.
The other main terminals are the Putra Bus Terminal on Jalan Tun Ismail just across from the Putra World Trade Centre and the Pekililing terminal on Jalan Ipoh, also not far from Putra WTC. Both terminals deal primarily with buses to east coast cities such as Kota Bharu, Kuala Terengganu, and Kuantan. The bus terminals have no general telephone inquiry numbers in their own right. Inquiries must be made directly to individual bus companies.
