The family vacation is a rite of passage for many households, one that in a split second can devolve into a National Lampoon farce. But as any veteran family vacationer will assure you, a family trip can be among the most pleasurable and rewarding times of your life.
However, because of their focus on business travelers, hotels in Singapore are not especially geared toward children. You can get extra beds in hotel rooms (this can cost anywhere from S$15-5$50/US$8.55-US$29), and most hotels will arrange a babysitter for you on request, though most ask for at least 24 hours notice. While almost all hotels have pools to keep the kiddies cool and happy, only two, the YMCA International House and Metro YMCA, have lifeguards on duty, and only one, Shangri-La's Rasa Sentosa Resort, has activity programs specifically for children. Children have their own special rates of admission for just about every attraction and museum. The cutoff age for children is usually 12 years of age, but if your kids are older, be sure to ask if the attraction has a student rate for teens. If the kids get edgy during all the "boring" historical and cultural aspects of your trip, plan a morning visit to the Singapore Zoological Gardens. I can almost guarantee they (and you) will have a great time.
In Singapore, childhood innocence is revered, so you will rarely find crimes being committed against them. You can rest assured that if your child is missing, he or she is probably just around the corner looking for youmaybe even with the help of a concerned Singaporean.

Given the strictures of Muslim culture, women who are breast-feeding should strictly limit the activity to private places. In the West it may be acceptable, but here it'll just freak people out.
