The Fullerton Singapore The newest darling of Singapore's luxury hotel market, The Fullerton is giving competitors like Ritz-Carlton and Four Seasons a run for their money. Originally built in 1928, this squat administrative building at the mouth of the Singapore River Once housed the General Post Office. Today it is flanked by the urban skyline, and its classical facade, with its Doric columns and tall porticos, looks more mundane than opulent. But designers have done a superb job, restoring Italian marble floors, coffered ceilings, and cornices inside. The courtyard lobby is grand, with skylights above and Courtyard guest room windows lining the inner face of the building. Rooms have been cleverly arranged to fit the original structure, featuring vaulted ceilings and tall windows. While the architectural style is antique, the rooms are anything but. In fresh shades of champagne, they feature large writing desks, deluxe stationery kits, flat-screen TVs, SONY PIayStations, and electronic safes big enough to hold your laptop. Big bathrooms have separate bath and shower stalls, mini-Stairmasters, and stylish Philippe Starck fixtures. The attentive service here is second to none.
